Peter Westenberg blogged about the opening film screenings on the <a title=\"OS Video\" href=\"http:\/\/osvideo.constantvzw.org\/\">OS Video blog<\/a>:<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/osvideo.constantvzw.org\/open-source-video\/\">Open Source Video ?<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>On 22 september, we showed some films in our freshly opened Libre Video Lab, which is part of <a href=\"http:\/\/variable.constantvzw.org\/\"><strong>Constant Variable, <\/strong><\/a> Constant\u2019s new lab building dedicated to F\/LOSS art, on Rue Gallait 80 in Schaarbeek, Brussels.<\/p>\n<p>We showed some video\u2019s that were in their own way give meaning to the \u2018open\u2019 in \u2018open source\u2019 video. The shorts <strong>Interdit de filmer<\/strong>; <strong>Une Mer<\/strong>; <strong>Headwar<\/strong> and <strong>Pov Mec<\/strong>; by Sarah Pleak, aka Sarah Tohn are made using free softwares such as Kino and Cinelerra and open source codecs and are available under a free license (from: <a title=\"http:\/\/www.c3p0o.org\/larsselavy\/\" href=\"http:\/\/www.c3p0o.org\/larsselavy\/\">http:\/\/www.c3p0o.org\/larsselavy\/<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/osvideo.constantvzw.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/lamer.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"lamer\" src=\"http:\/\/osvideo.constantvzw.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/lamer-300x218.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"218\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Other video\u2019s addressed issues concerning public space, border crossing, notions of identity and freedom, common spaces and collective ownership.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Le Pied<\/strong> by Fred Chemama; and <strong>Fronti\u00e8re<\/strong> by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jeromegiller.net\/\">Jerome Giller<\/a> are both released under a Creative Commons license. They were suggested for the evening by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.6870.be\/-About-us-\">68septante<\/a>, the super sympa Brussels based organisor of cultural events and publisher of dvd\u2019s that wants to stimulate creative production and exchange between artists and a broad public.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/gallery3.constantvzw.org\/var\/resizes\/osvideo-22-septembre\/IMG_0067-848482590.JPG?m=1316895976\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/gallery3.constantvzw.org\/var\/resizes\/osvideo-22-septembre\/IMG_0067-848482590.JPG?m=1316895976\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"241\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>By clapping your hands (up to 25 claps per seconds) you could slow forward the single shot film <a title=\"Barca High Speed\" href=\"http:\/\/vimeo.com\/16018824\"><strong>Barca High Speed <\/strong><\/a> by Peter Westenberg, which was projected behind the door of the main room. The film is a portrait of a walk through Barcelona shot as a series of photographs on B\/W super 8.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/osvideo.constantvzw.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/barca.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"barca\" src=\"http:\/\/osvideo.constantvzw.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/barca-300x219.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"219\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/stefanpiat.net\/\">St\u00e9fan Piat<\/a> showed documentation of his interactive installation <strong>Fort Saint-Nicolas<\/strong> and a GPS video collage, reconstucting a walk along the canal de Charleroi in Brussels, using gps data that was captured along the video.<\/p>\n<p>After enjoying some beautiful clips of the work of <a href=\"http:\/\/vimeo.com\/4692630\">Stadtmusik <\/a>, and a quick look at an example from the wonderful <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flong.com\/texts\/lists\/slit_scan\/#sj\">slit scan blog<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/automatist.org\/\">Michael Murtaugh<\/a> showed some results from <strong>MotionCamera<\/strong>, videos <a href=\"http:\/\/vimeo.com\/15648851\">made with \u201cmotion\u201d &amp; ffmpeg<\/a>, commandline tools, including <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/vimeo.com\/14884038\">Cat Motion #2.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/osvideo.constantvzw.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/mm.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"mm\" src=\"http:\/\/osvideo.constantvzw.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/mm-300x241.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"241\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And finally Simon Yuill was present to show his film <strong>Given to the People<\/strong> a film telling the story of the Pollok Free State, a Free State initiated by the actions of local resident Colin Macleod, who began a tree top protest against the building of the M77 motorway through Pollok Park, one of Europe\u2019s largest inner city public commons, in the early 1990s. Yuill joined the original VHS footage that was shot at the time with additional interviews that contextualise the actions in an atmospheric account of the events.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/gallery3.constantvzw.org\/var\/albums\/osvideo-22-septembre\/IMG_0088-1777122775.JPG?m=1316896082\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/gallery3.constantvzw.org\/var\/albums\/osvideo-22-septembre\/IMG_0088-1777122775.JPG?m=1316896082\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"241\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>For all the video\u2019s goes: yes they can be found on line, but usually some higher resolution exists with the makers.
