We&#8217;ve lost sight of the original meaning of &#8216;open&#8217;, for example when it was first used to describe the open source software movement. The meaning of open has changed since software became open and we&#8217;ve lost sight of that original meaning.\u00a0 Openness is the most revolutionary development in education since the invention of the printing press&#8221;, if we agree or disagree with those statements, or are somewhere\u00a0 in between on the Spectogram line..<\/p>\n<p>Then we went on to draw the <a href=\"http:\/\/education.okfn.org\/open-education-timeline-building\/\">Open Education Timeline<\/a>, referring to the <a href=\"http:\/\/legacy.earlham.edu\/~peters\/fos\/timeline.htm\">Timeline of the Open Access Movement, <\/a>and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.opendataimpacts.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/Open-Data-Impacts-Timeline-Draft-0.1.png\">UK Open Government Data timeline<\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dipity.com\/creativerights\/The_History_of_Creativity_Copyright\/\">Timeline of US Copyright law<\/a>, by stating first when and where we had the first encounter with &#8220;open&#8221;, or some might argue &#8220;free&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Marieke thn explained <a href=\"http:\/\/education.okfn.org\/open-education-handbook-booksprint\/\">OKFN&#8217;s Open Ed Handbook<\/a> and how this timeline will fit into it.
