Globally, our environment is no longer in a state about which we can be optimistic. <\/span>Anthropocene compels us to fundamentally reconsider the modern conception of nature as <\/span>a mere object. Augustin Berque, a French advocate of mesology (<\/span>Uexk\u00fcl<\/span>‘s Umweltlehre, <\/span>Watsuji’s f<\/span>\u016b<\/span>ogaku, i.e. the study of milieu) suggested the strange question \u201cdoes nature <\/span>think?\u201d as the theme of this international conference<\/a>. The aim of the conference is to re<\/span>–<\/span>examine the modern view of nature, whereby human beings are seen as holding a<\/span>transcendental position. We will invite 25 to 30 researchers from different fields <\/span>(anthropology, geography, philosophy, Buddhism, human environmental studies, <\/span>primatology, agricultural science, oceanography, law, history of Western art, etc. ), as well a<\/span>s <\/span>practitioners who directly face and work within nature, to discuss together, in an <\/span>intercultural and interdisciplinary approach, a series of questions centering on the problem <\/span>of what may or may not distinguish human thinking from the diverse types of se<\/span>lf<\/span>–<\/span>awareness and communication, discovered by ethology and biosemiotics, to exist among <\/span>other living beings. <\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
